2nd Year!

Last Friday we were able to attend Orrin's White Coat Ceremony. Which if you don't know... it is when a student reaches the patient care phase of their dental education. It marks the student's transition from the study of preclinical to clinical health sciences. So I would like to introduce you to "Student Doctor Mackey". Doesn't he make a Handsome Doctor.

Becoming a 2nd year means a lot of long nights in the simulation lab (where he is right now @11:30pm).

(The guy taking our picture was really tall. He had to look down with the camera. funny.)

They had the Dean, Associate Dean, and Pres of the Alumni Association speak and then the class of 2012 were each called up and were presented with their White Coat.

I got to see was Orrin receiving his coat but I had both boys with me by my self, it was during their nap time, and the room had no air conditioning so we didn't stay in the room very long. But we listened from outside.

We are very proud of him and all the hard work he has put into his 1st year of dental school! (and a few weeks into his 2nd)
Congratulations Orrin!

Blue Berry Addict

I have fallen in love with Blue Berries. Oregon blue berries are so amazing. I can't get enough. I have been eating them like crazy. I hope I don't turn out this way.

Fourth of July

For the Fourth of July we went to Tigard High School with some friends to watch a fireworks show. They had a lot of fun things to do while we waited for the show to start. They had face painting, a fire truck, sack races, and a helicopter flew in and landed on the field for everyone to check out. Wes now wants to be a helicopter pilot when he grows up.

The kids had a blast playing with glow sticks and getting blanket rides. The fireworks were great. Brad even watched the whole show and didn't even get scared. The most exciting part of the night was when we were in the parking lot waiting in a long line of cars to get out. Bradley was screaming so I hopped into the back with him. Then all of the sudden Brad and I got sprayed with this glowing green stuff. Wes had been playing with his glow sticks and broke it open and it sprayed all over us. I freaked out at first because I had no idea what it was. It was a funny ending to the night.

Fishing again

During Orrin's week off we took a family trip to Hornings Hideout to go fishing. It is such a beautiful and peaceful place. Wes had a blast fishing again.

It was so cute to watch him sit in his little chair and wait until he caught a fish and then real it in all by himself.

It was nice to have some peaceful family time outside. We caught two fish and Wes was so proud of them. So cute! He loves to fish. It was really fun for all of us but I had to remind Orrin that if we had girls we would be going to get pedicures for family outings.

Brad had some fun too!

Wesley's 1st time going to the Dentist

During the jam packed "week of fun" we had scheduled Wes his first official dentist appointment and didn't want to reschedule it because we had already waited 2 1/2 months for that appointment. We had to race home from camping and had 15mins to shower everyone and get out the door in time to make it to the appointment. I didn't think it was going to be possible but some how we did it. It was a record for our family. We were able to take him to the pedo department at Orrin's school which was fun because Wes always wants to go in Daddy's school not just to pick him up or drop him off. He loved every minute of it- taking x-rays , the cookie dough toothpaste (yuck), the cool sunglasses he got to wear, and the big chair he got to ride up and down in. He did great.

Orrin also got to sit in the Dr. chair and check out the TWO CAVITIES that Wesley had and also look at the x rays with the Dr. and "talk shop". They found out that he is missing a permanent tooth (#23) as well as a primary tooth (#n).

Wesley's Dr. was Dr. Emilia Adam. I thought it was fun because he has an aunt named Emily Adams.

He can't wait until his next appointment. I hope he does just as well at his next appointment when they do his filling and sealants.

Camping at Silver Falls

We knew that when Orrin had his break in July that we would go camping somewhere and we had lots of people tell us we had to camp at Silver Falls State Park. At the park there is an 8 mile hike where you are able to see 10 different waterfalls. We made it to the first two and we thought that was great because Wes was walking by his self the whole way. Brad rode in the backpack for the first time and loved it. Now I have been thinking about using it while I do the dishes. It was so fun because we were able to walk behind both waterfalls which was pretty neat.

That night we camped with the Monahans and the boys had a blast being boys and playing in the dirt, with the campfire, with sticks, and eating watermelon. We also had some amazing grilled chicken and hot dogs for dinner. My favorite part of camping is the yummy food, if you couldn't tell. That night we had the traditional smores and the campfire stories ;) Thanks for a fun time guys!

Beaverton Farmers Market

Our town of Beaverton has a Farmers Market each Saturday through out summer were local farmers come to sell their produce. On Saturday we tried it out. We were able to get some farmers market coupons so we let Wesley use one and pick out anything that he wanted to get and he picked peas. I guess he was all berried out. We then tried out a crepe place called Zest Crepes I had heard about and it was so so good! We got the Nutella Bliss with nutella • strawberries • whipped cream • cinnamon. I want one right now.
