NO SCHOOL!!!

For the last 3 years every Presidents Day we have gone to Mt. Hood to play in the snow. Every year we leave when its raining and we we have gotten there it ends up being a beautiful sunny day. Well our luck ran out and it didn't work that way this year. We left and it was raining , we got there it was raining, we played and it was raining, and we came home and it was still raining. But in true Portland style we just acted like it wasn't there. You just can't let the rain stop you.

Kyson hasn't yet learned that rule and didn't like the rain in his face so Kyson and I spent most of the time hanging out in the car. Lucky I was able to watch the other boys from the car and it was also stocked with lots of snacks.

The boys had a blast sledding with daddy.

Look at those poor feeties. His shoes didn't want to stay on.

Kyson also go to check out the snow for a few minutes before he wanted to get back inside the car.

My little sunbeam

I always get mixed feelings when my kids hit different milestones. They grow up so so fast and I'm sad that   they are growing up and there is nothing I can do about it. On the other hand I get really excited for them and for the growth and progress they have achieved in their lives so far. I guess that is what life is all about and I shouldn't fight it right?

This year Bradley went into Primary and is now a sunbeam! It has been fun being in the primary presidency and be able to watch and learn the primary songs with both him and Wes in primary. Last week Brad got to give his first talk on Choosing the Right. Of course I couldn't get him to talk but he stood really proud up on the stand holding a CTR sign while I read the talk we wrote together.

I am so proud of Brad and his choice to attend primary so happily. I thought it would be a hard transition for him but he did awesome.

MLK Holiday!!!

We love national holidays because we get to spend more time with Orrin. He gets the day off from school too.  We decided to go to the children's museum because they had a Lego exhibit, and if you didn't know already my kids are in love with Legos.

these were built with Lego's

When we can out of the museum it was snowing. The museum is on a hill ( at least that's what they call them around here but they are more like mountains) that also has a national park, other museums, the zoo, and the famous Portland Rose garden on it. I think we were just high enough to be able to get some snow.

Walking to school, uphill in 5 feet of snow.... or maybe just 5 millimeters

So we finally got some snow!!!

We were surprised when we opened the door to go to school and there was snow!!
This was Kyson's first time in the snow but he didn't leave his little stroller sleeping bag.

We ended up being a little late for school but so were a lot of kids. It doesn't snow much here in portland and the kids had to get some snow play in before it all melted, and it did a few hours later.
Those were our tracks from walking to school. Brad thought it was so cool, like train tracks.

It snowed again a few days later and it was much thicker. Orrin and I were both awake around 2:00am because both Brad and Kyson woke up (this happens all the time because if one wakes up they end up waking the other). After they had gone back to sleep we decided to check to see if there was snow and everything was covered in beautiful white snow. It was beautiful and peaceful looking. With it being late at night, no one was around. I just new it was enough to stick and would be there in the morning but no it was all gone. All that was left was rain. It then rained for 3 weeks straight!!!

Last days of the Trip

My dad was amazing at getting Kyson to fall asleep. Every time he took him he got him to fall asleep. There was even a really bad night were he was up for such a long time in the night my dad got up an offered to take him from us and finally got him to sleep. It was so nice!!

We got to spend lots of time in the sun. It was so nice to store up that vitamin D.
My Grandma came to visit from Utha and we also got to spend time with her. We love her so much!!!

Great Grandma Barker and the Boys.

The rooster crows its a new year, 2012 is now here.

The boys playing wii while the girls played card games.
The kids had a blast with the sparklers.

On new years morning I was awakened by this rooster.  The bedroom is right behind that tree. I could hear him while I was sleeping and then looked out the window and saw this rooster starring at me. The boys  had fun chasing it around. It stayed around the house for a few days. My parents have a lot of neighbors with chickens so we had called all of them but didn't figure out it was our neighbors right across the street until they had a chicken coop delivered a few days later. They had gotten some chickens for christmas from a friend and didn't even realize the rooster was gone.

Wesley is 6!!

On December 30th while we were still on our trip to AZ, Wesley turned 6!!

We went to Freestone Park and feed the ducks, had a picnic lunch, and road the rides.

It was such a beautiful day and the kids had a blast.

 Brad, Brinlee, & Wes

 PARTY!!
We then came home and had homemade Mac and Cheese YUMMY! Wesley's choice of course.
My poor fair skin, Portland, boys.  Just that little sun gave Wes a sun burn.

His favorite gift. Spy night vision goggles- from uncle Scott, aunt Jania, Brinlee and Paige.
And of course we finished it off with homemade egg nog ice cream, Wesley's favorite.
